Colours of Panormo
Purple-red as the sunsets
Panormo has the most beautiful sunsets; you walk up on the hill beside the port at around 8 o’ clock in the evening and half an hour later you have in front of you the big purple-red sun falling into the Mediterranean Sea. Breathtaking!
Pink as bougainvillea
Panormo with its beautiful bougainvilleas, jasmine and fig trees is a colourful promenade. In September, when the bougainvillea flowers start to fall, you can see paths in the village covered with a deep pink, fushia or purple carpet. Beautiful!
Red as watermelon
Watermelons are produced in the area and refresh you in the summer. Cretan soil , blessed by the gods, produces a huge variety of fruit and vegetables the whole year round: You can find in the village, produced by local villagers, oranges, grapes, figs, apricots, melons, prunes and so much more. Delicious!
Blue as the sea
The little picturesque port, the lighthouse, the open sea is just below the villa. Several taverns and cafés surround it for cafe latte or ice cream. In autumn, the two beaches of Panormo are chosen by sea turtles who come to hide their eggs in the sand. The baby sea turtles run in the sea when born. Life!
Panormo, an authentic Cretan village
Panormo is calm and quiet with two beaches you can walk to, several taverns serving delicious Cretan food, still in the traditional model of small family businesses taking very good care of their cuisine and clients.
There are also a couple of bars and nice promenades around the village.
The beautiful church of St Georges is just behind the villa and a bit further away is the old carob mill, renovated into a modern cultural centre, hosting photo exhibitions and major music and theatre performances.
Panormo is a place to visit in all seasons.
In winter you visit the snowy mountain of Psiloritis (Mount Ida, 2456m.), you take walks by the sea or visit the heroic Arkadi Monastery, a symbol of Cretan resistance to invadors.
In spring all the wild flowers are flourishing; go for excursions to the Samaria gorge or archeological spots as the temperature is pleasant without being too hot. Spring and autumn are described by many like a good Nordic summer.
In summer it is time for swimming in Panormo and discovering other beaches nearby or at the south coast. Autumn, for many the best season to visit Crete, has the mildness of the summer; the sea is warm and the temperatures are not as hot as in summer, a good season for wandering around in the mountain villages and the archeological sites, Knossos, Faistos, Zakros.
